“What are you waiting for? You’re faster than this. Don’t think you are… know you are. Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!” – Morpheus
In 1999, two sibblings called The Wachowskis wrote and directed a movie that changed Hollywood forever, The Matrix, a cyberpunk sci-fi movie, filled of groundbreaking special effects and action sequences coupled with deep philosophical and religious ideas.
In the film, most of humanity lives inside the Matrix, a simulated reality created by machines… You know what? If you don’t know what the Matrix is, go and see the movie right now. As Morpheus tells us no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
The Matrix is layered with great life lessons if you can see beyond the CGI and Kung Fu. The movie is all about believing in oneself. Our main hero, Neo, has to learn that he can do whatever he believes he can do. And so can you.
Our mindset is our biggest obstacle but I assure you that you have the potential within. You have to first realize it and then maximize it. Morpheus says in simply: you have to let it all go; fear, doubt and disbelief. Free your mind. And when you learn to do that, you will become something bigger than yourself, you will be the One.
Keep an open mind because things are not always what you perceive them to be. It’s a good idea to keep in mind that everything you know could be wrong. Knowledge is power and learning must be a lifelong endeavor. Keep that in mind and you’ll have an easier time adapting to change. So learn about life, about you, and question everything.
There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. Find your path, go out, explore, live, and follow the white rabbit wherever it may take you. Life is an adventure and we must take the risk to live it because we still have something machines don’t possess, willpower. And if you fail the first time on doing something new, that’s ok. Neo failed the first time jumping skyscrapers because everyone falls the first time but that doesn’t have to mean anything. You just keep trying.
There is no fate and prophecy, only faith and belief. Go against the expectations of everyone. Trust yourself. Because you are already the One, you just have to realize it.
This film represents what Morpheus tries to instill in us from the beginning; free your mind. Someone else can show you the door. But you’re the one that has to walk through it.
What are you waiting for? You’re better. Don’t think you are, know you are. Stop trying and do!
And if anybody asks you why you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Remember Neo‘s words: because I choose to.
